Homefront or Crysis 2

They both come out around the same time and I'm looking to buy one of them, I know most of you aren't into shooters on PC so Simon, Joe, thoughts?

If memory serves, wasn't crysis a beast that still gives a lot of PCs fits to play on high resolution? If so, I doubt my machine will even be able to run crysis 2.

That's my main reason for fps on console these days, at least u know your console will play the game.

I think Crysis 2 looks more interesting but I have no idea if my computer will run it.

Homefront looks too much like BF2/CoD to me.

Yeah but thats because they tried making a game that was a year ahead of all the graphics cards and shit already out.
The performance on the game just wasn't optimized because it couldn't have been and it still isn't. My computer runs everything on max settings with the exception of Crysis and GTA IV (GTA being a shoddy port from console). But thats not our fault. EA stated Crysis 2 would be adaptable and would be able to run on most PCs. So i'm hoping they sorted everything out because for you to even play Crysis now, no matter what kind of machine you have you would need to go in and edit Cvars to optimize it.

I agree though, Homefront seems too much like Battlefield/COD. They're even doing the same multiplayer setup DICE does.

i am not excited about either, andwould probably choose homefront over crysis if there were no outside factors to consider. BUT if I am going to buy either it would be the one you all are playing.

The Crysis 2 demo is now out on steam. Downloading now.

edit- I ventured into new territory and I don't like it. It feels too bulky and theres so much shit you need to press. It would be impossible to play with keyboard and mouse. Even with my 360 controller it was hard as hell.

so crysis 2 is a no?

I tried to play yesterday when I got back home and I could not log in. I'll try again tonight to give my opinion on that.

It kept prompting me to put in an email that wasn't used, so I just made a random one up with a bullshit username and it worked, dont bother using real information or you'll never get in.

After a couple of games, my main concern was not about the actual gameplay, that I think was fun btw, but more about the game joining and mutiplayer system. A lot of the servers seem to have problem, but even when you do get one that works, it's pretty much : Play 10min, go back to the pre-fight screen, wait 2min, load for 1, play for 10min, ... (rinse and repeat). I find it so annoying to have it stop the action so often.

I guess this could be edited in the future by server owners and admins, but I can't help but think this is a shitty game finding and multiplayer system.


On the other hand, I did not feel there was a whole lot of buttons to press, pretty much your standard shooter controls plus 2 buttons (Q and E) to activate your suit's armor and stealth mode. These keys are sometimes used for leaning in other games and I don't feel are that big of a deal to manage.

The action is constant and the thing I felt was pretty different from other shooters (other than the suits' powers and given abilities) is that character models seem to blend in to the scenery making spotting enemies harder than in your average shooter.

The other thing that bothered me a bit is that I had trouble locating the provenance of sounds with my headset. To me, this is huge in a shooter as view and sound are your only senses in a video game, and happening to have one of them to be unreliable is pretty weak. Maybe this could be fixed with some tuning of the sound options, but I haven't had time to test this in the short time I was home last night.

Overall, I think the actual gameplay is good and entertaining. I did not have problem running the game, even with my weak CPU.
